What?

by josh on Jun.22, 2009, under Uncategorized

“What the hell are you doing here? I mean, I thought you would be at home.”

“Nah, I feel pretty good.  Good enough I mean for…  you know.”

“Sure, it’s not like it takes a lot of energy or anything, I guess all you have to do is lay there but…”

“Yeah, there’s more to it than you realize, but a lot of it is about just staying calm during the whole thing.  The amateurs, they always think they’ll be fine when they start out, but a couple hours in and man, you can see the panic in their eyes.”

“Sure, I guess it would take a lot of mental conditioning to be able to handle that.”

“Mental and physical, I mean, I work out like 4 days a week.  At least I used to before my injury.  I’ve had to take some time off from that, so hopefully I’ll still be able to handle this today.”

“I’m sure you’ll be fine.  I know you’ve been doing this a long time, but, I still think you still should have stayed home today.”

“I know.  I just couldn’t stay away any longer.”

Curtains

by josh on Jun.11, 2009, under Stories

She was always looking at the world from behind the curtains.  She didn’t want anyone to know she was there.  There was just too much risk involved in that.  The house was always dark inside so she could see outside without anyone seeing her silhouette in the window.

The Snow Is Coming

by josh on Jun.03, 2009, under Stories

It was colder than it looked outside. The first snow hadn’t come yet and the wind was whipping the fallen leaves around the backyard. The dogs were out, shuffling around looking for their spot. It took longer than normal to find it, but the cold didn’t really concern them. The old shed door was a little loose and would rattle a little with each gust of wind.  The man hidden inside didn’t mind the noise. At least the shed kept him out of the weather. For now he was safe here, but he wouldn’t be able to stay long. He needs the shelter until he can find a way out of here.  Hopefully somewhere warmer, maybe Texas. Maybe not. They might expect him to move south, but he can’t stay the winter here.

Twelve

Twelve twelve twelve twelve. Twelve. Twelve twelve twelve. Twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve, twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve. Twelve twelve twelve. Twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve. Twelve twelve, twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve twelve. Twelve twelve twelve. Twelve twelve twelve.

After all that, it doesn’t even look like a word anymore.

On her own

by josh on Jun.02, 2009, under Stories

She decided to leave without him.  He was obviously running late again, and she just didn’t have the time to waste today.  In the past it wouldn’t have been so easy for her to go without him.  She can’t really remember why.  In the beginning they were always together, but now…  Maybe he has finally let her down too many times.  Maybe his failures as a person have finally worn her love for him away.

She decides not to think about it anymore and puts the car into drive.
